Mayo Clinic Minute: Low-carb diet findings and cautions

“Our review found those following the low-carbohydrate diet lost about 2.5 to 5 pounds more than those following comparison diets, which usually were calorie-restricted and or low-fat,” says Dr. Heather Fields, an internal medicine physician at Mayo Clinic and the study’s lead author.
Dr. Fields says, although no short-term negative health consequences were noted, the research did not examine the long-term implications of a low-carb diet.
In this Mayo Clinic Minute, Dr. Fields further explains the study’s findings and notes important cautions that come with a diet low in carbohydrates. Jeff Olsen reports.

I make my own bacon it’s easy it’s cheap and taste better than the store bacon. Five or six days of curing and then I smoke it to 155°. Pancetta is similar to bacon just requires different spices and longer curing.

Insulin is the monster. What causes insulin spikes. ?
1. Grains..oatmeal, cereal, bread
2. Fruit. Bananas, apples, and honey
3. Pastas…spaghetti, noodles, etc.
Stick to meats and vegetables to keep fat-storing insulin levels low.

But, I have gallstones…I don't really get to choose what to eat anymore that has fat in it…if I do eat anything with too much fat I will have an attack in my upper abdomen.
So I must follow a low fat diet to relieve stress on my gallbladder.

Low fat diet has gotten me nowhere, except overweight. Low carb diet (healthy fat) with intermittent fasting has been a game changer for me. Only carbs I eat are veggies, 1 low GCI fruit per day, and oatmeal every other day with flax seed and cinnamon. Not going back to the bullshit spouted from the "medical community".

It may be that living a low carb lifestyle is a skill that must be developed over time. Just like anything else, your not very good at doing anything at first but over time you get better and better. That may be the key. Trial and error until you find what works for you. A Korean friend once told me it takes about 30 days for your body to properly adapt to a new way of eating. So don't expect to be an expert at low carb living over night. It takes time. However don't forget to drink lots and lots of water. Most people don't drink anything even remotely close to enough water. It's really basic but so very vital to healthy living. You need that water to flush your system out of all the toxins in the digestive system. All those chemical reactions to convert food to energy produce waste and that waste needs to be flushed out every day.

Call me a conspiracy theorist, but have you noticed that it’s always big pharma telling you not to do something that actually works. For example, low carb diet has proven to help you lose weight and become more healthy, there are a million people who have done it successfully and have been unsuccessful on a low fat diet. They can’t make money on healthy people with no medical conditions so they keep peddling their crap to keep you going to the doctor for more and more medications that don’t help.
