New year, new dieting craze. The ketogenic diet is the latest in popular diets in the US. It shares many similarities with the Atkins diet; it’s low-to-no carbs, some protein, and a lot of delicious fat.
The keto diet isn’t exactly new. It’s been used to treat epilepsy since the 1920s, and it’s had promising outcomes from treating Type 2 Diabetes. However, epilepsy and diabetes aren’t the only reason people give the ketogenic diet a try. It’s also used as a diet for weight loss. The diet banishes most carbs, including fruit, and opts-in for fatty foods like avocados, salmon, eggs, cheese, butter, oil, and the holy grail of fatty meats — bacon.
Unfortunately, science has not yet proven the keto diet to be the miraculous cure to losing weight, that some kept devotees claim it to be. The more extreme a diet, the harder it is to adhere to, and though the diet may be beneficial to some, that does not mean it will work for all who give it a try.

The ketogenic diet is backed by good science. But findings support it as a treatment for epilepsy, not losing weight.

Ask the Germans in Stalingrad how well Keto worked for them

my dad did atkins in the late 90s and lost 40lbs! he’s 60 now and has never gained it back. turns out he basically did keto before he knew we called it that now
January 24th, 2020 at 3:35 pm
I think I have lost my appetite a bit… I didn’t eat at much during keto as well.
January 24th, 2020 at 3:40 pm
You guys literally present no TRUE scientific evidence why keto isn’t for weight loss.

No diet, make it an actual life style change and you will be successful. Just stop all the junk food. The cravings will go away and you will want to eat healthier .

One major thing left out of the video is that the hormone that makes you hungry is suppressed on keto. It does work as long as your on it for a longer time frame. That is one of the key thing that makes it so effective

This vídeo needed to be longer.

People, for the longest time, have been eating carbs as primary source of energy, and for the longest time on frequent insulin spikes leading to insulin resistance and eventually diabetes. Please read journals on low carb diet and intermittent fasting. Time to educate people.

Personal health is a discipline. Those looking for a quick fix won't find it; one must alter their whole lifestyle. This means not just simply breaking old habits or developing new ones, but changing one's entire paradigm, the philosophy with which one approaches life. If you cannot change the way you think about yourself and how you relate to the rest of the world, you will find yourself succumbing to the same routine, time and again. To change, one must choose a path entirely and radically different from the one they currently travel.

keto really changed my life if your on the fence like i was i would say just give it a shot

I’m just not going to watch anything with the word “explained” in the title that’s less than 4 minutes any more. All they did was try to debunk it without really defining what it is. Whether it works or not is kind of irrelevant when you can’t even convey basic information to your viewer.

Wrong. Nice try.

I done this diet with intermittent fasting, i eat twice a day I have breakfast in the morning and don’t eat for 12hrs, in two days I lost 3kg I was 94kg (207 pounds) so you do the maths. Fast results to my goal of 74 kg (163 pounds)

Millions are heading towards diabetes in this country. Shouldn't that be enough to drastically cut our consumption on sugars and carbs? I suspect I already have it and I don't want to go blind, lose a leg or be on meds that don't cure nothing, so I decided to stay away from flour, sugar and the carbs causing the harm as much as I can. If you're young and active your body can deal with a lot but now people are getting it earlier than before.

My mother lost 130lbs in 11 months on keto. I’ve been on it for a 26 days and dropped 22. I realize half of that is water, but 11lbs in 26 days alone is a lot of progress. The diet works, but everyone is different.

Soooo, Whitch groups were smokers and drinkers more inclined to be in? How about high stress jobs, drug use? And most importanty, WHO funded the research?
January 24th, 2020 at 11:20 pm
Type 1 diabetic here. Been on keto since November 2019 and it’s currently January 2020, and have lost 7 kg (BMI from 23.5 to 21) and my blood sugar has never been better in the 16 years I’ve been diabetic (diagnosed age 14 and 30 now). That alone will significantly increase my life expectancy.
January 24th, 2020 at 11:45 pm
Slanted study to fit the narrative they are pushing. Plant based lol What better way then to teach this to the students
January 25th, 2020 at 12:11 am
But was the "low carb" group actually on a keto diet i.e. high fat? If no, then the study is irrelevant in regards to evaluating a keto diet. Your conclusion was embarrassing. Do better.
January 25th, 2020 at 1:09 am
Any extreme is bad. Nearly entirely cutting out something that your body uses (like carbs) long term isn't healthy. We know what's good for us (nuts, veggies, fruits, etc) and what's not so good for us (bacon, candy, fried food, etc), use common sense not a fad diet.
January 25th, 2020 at 1:39 am
Just more corporate propaganda here. This girl is lying to people for money. The medical industry will lose billions if more people going on Keto lifestyle. Less business for her if people are on Keto and healthy.

Do some research Miss "MD"
January 25th, 2020 at 2:17 am
I think looking at the test subject from this study, bring to light that we should really think hard about our daily foods and limit all the bad stuff.
I am a 65 year old male that is over weight, I have enjoyed the Keto process so far and hope it can help.
me to relearn how to eat. Keep the video coming your a pleasure to listen to.

If it wasn't an independent study . If it was a study by some drug company or lobbyist you will not get me to believe this kills. From my research Veg vegan diet kills and causes diabetes. Who did your study.? Doctors have lied to us about cholesterol and heart disease for years why should I believe them now?
January 25th, 2020 at 2:59 am
40% is not keto and would have included foods such as bread rice pasta and potatoes all of which cause inflammation in the body and oxidisation of the type B LDL cholesterol which causes heart disease and still means almost half the days food was coming form carb foods so not low carb or ketogenic at all. If you mix fats and carbs any problems become worse but fat without carbs is completely healthy none of the study subjects were eating a low carb diet never mind a ketogenic one. The study asked everyone only about 3 times what they ate first two times within the first few years and asked how many times they are a certain food in the last 2 years which as most of us can't remember what we ate last week with any accuracy is just not going to get a real answer in any scientific terms.
People also lie both deliberately when ashamed and by omission when they simply can't remember and want to look good. They left it many years checked back in again by the same questionnaire style and assumed that over the years no other health factor like stress, smoking, drinking or lifestyles made any other contribution to their health and assuming they really had stuck to the amount of carbs rigidly which lets face it most people wouldn't have done. So all in all it was just yet another study doomed to be inaccurate and not worth the time and money spent on it. You would have to get people to write down what they ate daily film vlogs and be health check constantly and admit to slip up and other lifestyle factors for ill health to record with any accuracy how their diet affected them on a truly low carb or ketogenic eating pattern, and this is hardly possible as most people will refuse to take part in such an invasive study.
What we can see plainly that in the 60 years since the first mutterings of low fat high carb diets being good for us to the present dietary guidelines advocating it for all, has caused the obesity and chronic health conditions crisis that we have world wide today, which is a true experiment in the field and has achieved results no one can deny. This lady is not studying the study and has clearly got a plant based food agenda as she openly says plant based is best when in reality plant based is not the best and we didn't evolve to eat a plant based diet.
Those people who do a true ketogenic diet and have gone from being fatter and sicker or just sicker to getting excellent results back on all blood tests and other tests will tell you that it is impossible to go from being healthy in every test to being suddenly dead of the chronic disease and conditions associated with poor dietary health when every test is coming back well within healthy perimeters. It just isn't possible to keel over and die of a sudden heart attack or other chronic illness when nothing Is wrong with you. The study was inaccurate and the way it was portrayed in the media was designed to make ignorant people fearful of low carb and ketogenic diets because no one makes any money from you eating real food and not needing medications and surgeries for chronic conditions.
January 25th, 2020 at 3:07 am
I think The Lancet is interchanging low carb and keto. 40% carbs, regardless….is NOT “Keto.
January 25th, 2020 at 3:07 am
You low carb model of 40% isn't a low carb keto diet .. your research that your representing is flawed .. your Jedi mind tricks don't work on us..
January 25th, 2020 at 3:43 am
The lesson here is moderation is key. Avoid processed junk foods, alcoholic beverage, cigarettes.
January 25th, 2020 at 3:53 am
I sure hope you can really play the violin…

"Meta-analysis" and "survey" reveal that this study is based on uncontrolled self-reporting. (I.e., many people LIE about their diet!) For more about the flaws in this study, see KenDBerryMD's video. I have successfully controlled my diabetes and % of body fat for 25 years by eating a low-carb high-fat diet. My latest lab results from about 2 months ago report A1C 6.2 Triglycerides 108 Cholesterol 123 Chol/HDL ratio 3.
January 25th, 2020 at 4:31 am
People that go low carb probably had health issues and people that can do middle carb never got fat so they were always healthy
January 25th, 2020 at 4:44 am
What do I do now!? I tried high carb plant based no refined sugar no oil, and have been in a 3 yr flare. (I have Severe Ulcerative Colitis, currently on Stelara having failed Entyvio, Humira, Simponi, Xeljanz and Remicade during those 3 yrs) the blood loss, bloating and pain in my abdomen for me occur after salads, potatoes and especially nuts and seeds. I was desperate, so what the hell, I went on a keto diet after seeing an athlete on A YouTube show by Joe Rogan who said he helped his UC with LCHF. I tried to do it following Dr. Bergs guide lines including certain greens and vegetables. Still had every symptom. Then after some more research I tried eating only meat. Noticed abdominal pain especially bloating decrease after first meal and diminished blood by day four. B day 9 I had my first formed, blood free stool in just about 3 yrs. things have been steadily improving and I even started back on my elliptical and times are increasing. I have been so grateful because I am in 2nd year of a medical hold and embarrasses me that my wife is all alone in trying to make the bills alone. My job requires that I have a medical once every two years as I work at Sea under international maritime law which has very strong requirements about medicals. Now I find out that this way of eating is going to kill me! So it is some thing of a conundrum. I don’t want to lose my colon, which is a very real possibility, especially for as long as I’ve had the disease. I don’t want to lose my job permanently, I love my job! On the other hand I don’t want to be dead in a couple years! This thing just pisses me off! I finally felt like I was getting relief and moving in the right direction and now I don’t know what to think! It has been 18 years since my diagnosis and luckily I spent most of those years in remission. The last three years however have completely reversed the direction of my life and even fasting doesn’t help because I tried that too. The one thing that is helping is killing me. The only thing I can say to that is, SHIT!

It’s the Atkins Diet. It can make you very sick.

If you want to continue being dependent medications and be overweight wit all its consequences then do not start a keto diet…I’m glad I did start over a year ago and the result is having my 24 yo body weight ang getting off the high BP pills…
